Police were present at the request of the Halton District School Board for this important meeting on SE Oakville schools. As the revised Director's report was brought for discussion, Trustee Ellis motioned for the adoption of a revised alternate proposal calling for 3 JK-8 schools and presented the Trustees with a NEW report for her vision. Clearview to be built and EJ James to accomodate the English stream and Maple Grove to accept the French Immersion. She added two additional motions calling for renovations at both Maple Grove and EJ James to ensure they are brought up to some standard of building practice and that they bring this proposal forward to the Ministry of Education. After 1 hour of negotiating the motion passed unanimously. Linbrook, Brantwood, New Central and Chisholm to close and be sold to pay for the new construction for 300+ Clearview students and some of the balance of proceedings to pay for the renovations at EJ James & Maple Grove. $17,000,000 in property sales from Brantwood, New Central, Linbrook & Chisholm, the majority for new school construction in Clearview and some for renovations at Maple Grove & EJ James. The trustees were uncomfortable with suggestions that ALL proceeds should be spent in the Ward. There was no debate on the preferred option of JK-6 nor the PARC recommendations.
The public was not provided with any information or background on why they rejected the PARC recommendation nor on how a JK-8 model is the board's preferred structure and why this was never disclosed to PARC members during the PARC process. Unknown is the boundaries required for this plan. If Clearview is built for 500 students, there must be over 100 students bused. We don't know which community will be bused to Clearview starting in September 2010, when Clearview will be complete. As we left the school board, there was much discussion about appeals and legal action.
